Turkey Açıklaması 57 People Died From Swine Flu İn 3 Months

Turkey's top health official says peak season of flu over.

At least 57 people have died from H1N1 -- so-called “swine flu” -- in Turkey over the last three months, Turkey’s health minister said on Thursday.

“We have collected a total of 480 samples from patients, out of which 280 were cases of H1N1,” Health Minister Mehmet Muezzinoglu told an Ankara meeting about Turkey's health vision and future projections.

The minister said that the transmission of the virus in November and the early December was slow. 'The virus peaked in late December and early January, but the peak season of the flu is over,' Muezzinoglu said.

Authorities define the flu season as spanning the period from October to April.

The minister said that the government had taken all necessary measures to deal with the situation and there was no need to panic. 'Hand hygiene is vital for preventing the virus from spreading. Healthy nutrition as well as drinking more water is also important,' the minister said.

Swine flu was first reported in Turkey in 2009. The flu had killed over 30 people in the country in 2014-2015 flu season.

Mezzinoglu also assured that no Zika virus has been recorded in Turkey so far.

Originating in Latin America, the mosquito-borne virus causes symptoms in roughly one in five adults, including fever, rash and conjunctivitis.

There is currently no vaccine or cure for the virus, which has spread to 21 countries and territories in the Americas, according to the Pan American Health Organization.

The virus is expected to spread to every country where Aedes mosquitoes are known to live, according to the organization.

The World Health Organization predicted on Thursday that the virus could be contracted by as many as four million people over the next 12 months.
