Turkey Jan-march Jobless Rate Eases To 14.4%
Turkey's unemployment rate fell to 14.4% in the January to March period, compared with the 14.5% recorded between December 2009 to February 2010, the Turkish Statistics Institute said Monday.
The jobless rate was 16 . 1% in the corresponding three months a year previously .
The number of people in employment totaled 21 . 267 million in the three months to March , while the number of unemployed was 3 . 564 million .
Employment in non-agriculture rose an annual 826 , 000 in the three months to March , while the number of jobs in farming rose 662 , 000 .
Excluding the agricultural sector , the unemployment rate fell to 17 . 5% between JanuaryMarch , from 19 . 3% a year earlier .
For the whole of 2009 , employment totaled 21 . 28 million , while the number of unemployed totaled 3 . 47 million .
