Turkısh Dec-feb Unemployment Rıses To 14.5%
Turkey's unemployment rate rose to 14.5% in the December 2009 to February 2010 period, compared with 13.5% from November to January, the Turkish Statistics Institute said Thursday.
In the same three months a year previously, 15.5% of the population were unemployed.
The number of people in employment totaled 21.162 million in the three months to February, while the number of unemployed was 3.591 million.
Employment in non-agriculture rose an annual 592,000 in the three months to February, while the number of jobs in farming rose 697,000.
Excluding the agricultural sector, the unemployment rate fell to 17.6% between DecemberFebruary, from 18.5% a year earlier.
For the whole of 2009, employment totaled 21.28 million, while the number of unemployed totaled 3.47 million.
