epa02187290 An Indian farmer thrashing paddy in Budha Mayaong village about 45 km from Guwahati city, northeast India 04 June 2010. Continous monsoon rain since last couple of days has destroyed large quantity of the rabi crop in Assam. The northeast regions have witnessed heavy to extremely heavy rains according to the regional meteorological centre in Guwahati. This year, during pre-monsoon period itself (March 1 to May 31), good amount of rainfall has already occurred over the region. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati, Assam state recorded 30 per cent excess rainfall during this period. A typical monsoon season in northeast India runs from June to September. EPA/STR
