Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said Tuesday that Turkey's state-owned pipeline-and-gas company Botasthe State Oil Company of Azerbaijan, known as Socar, have agreed in principle on the transportation of Azeri gas through Turkey to Western markets.

Yildiz said all subjects, including price, were included in the agreementthere was no need to give further details.

Last October, Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev said his country had to look for alternative gas routes to Europe as the priceconditions offered by Turkey for the transit of Azeri gas were unacceptable.

Azerbaijan has been considered as one of the main gas suppliers of the European Union-backed Nabucco Pipeline, which aims to transport gas from the Caspian SeaMiddle East through Turkeythe Balkan States to Western Europe.
