It is derived from Makarapa, meaning migrant workeris associated with the 'helmets' because they were used by migrant workers in the mines around Johannesburg. It belongs to the typical South African football fan's supporters gearis increasingly popular with fans of other sports. With the FIFA World Cup 2010, the international profileavailability of the Makarapa has increased greatly. The price of a Makarapa made from an artist varies between 180500 ZAR (1954 euro), depending on the qualityintricacy of the artwork.
