The pope held , on 08 June , a meeting with members of the Coptic church clergy in order to discuss , Egypt ' s High Court ruling on 31 May , which allows divorced Egyptian Copts to remarry . The Coptic Orthodox Church is the main Christian Church in Egypt . Divorceremarriage are only permitted by it for " the innocent party in cases of adultery or conversion " . The issue has been a controversial one since 2008 after Egypt ' s Higher Civil Court ruled that Copts who had filed for a civil divorce had the legal right to remarry .  EPA/HATEM WALID
