Turkısh Central Bank To Keep Rates Unchanged For A Whıle
Turkey's central bank said Tuesday that interest rates may need to be held at current levels for a while.
In the summary of the minutes of its June rate-setting meeting, the bank said core inflation indicators will remain below inflation-target levelsin line with medium-term targets.
It added that the outlook for inflation was more positive than forecast in April's inflation report because of lower unprocessed food priceseasing commodity prices.
In view of these developments, the bank's monetary policy committee confirmed that interest rates may need to be held at current levels for a periodmay be kept low over the long term, it said.
July 17, the central bank left its key overnight borrowing rate at 6.5%its overnight lending rate at 9%, in line with general market expectations.
