Total deposits in Turkey's banking sector rose to TRY586
Total deposits in Turkey's banking sector rose to TRY586.264 billion ($382.2 billion) in the first half of the year from TRY531.475 billion at the end of last year, the Turkish Banks Association said Tuesday.
Turkish banks' lira loans reached TRY335.6 billion in the first half of 2010 from TRY289.8 billion at the end of 2009, the association said, the Ihlas News Agency, or IHA, reported.
Last month, Turkey's banking regulator BDDK Chairman Tevfik Bilgin said that Turkish banks' loan growth may be more than 15%, or reach 20%, in 2010, but profit may be lower than a year earlier.
Turkish banks' loans rose 12.4% in the first five months of the yearwill continue increasing, Bilgin said.
