epa02181305 German President Horst Koehler (R)?and his wife Eva Luise (L)?deliver a press conference in Bellevue Palace of Berlin, Germany, 31 May 2010. Earlier  Koehler announced his resignation over controversial comments he made about Germany's military role in Afghanistan. Mr Koehler had suggested during a recent trip to Afghanistan that the German military was active in the region to defend economic interests.
