epa02171100 A hand out picture made available 24 May 2010 shows British endurance swimmerenvironmental campaigner Lewis Gordon Pugh completes a record 1,000m swim across the Pumori glacial lake at 5,300m in altitude under the summit of Mt Everest 23 May 2010. Pugh completed the 1km swim in icy cold 2 degree waters across a glacial lake adjacent to the Khumbu Glacier in a time of 22 minutes51 seconds. is situated at an altitude of 5,300 metres. He undertook the record-breaking swim to draw attention to the melting of the glaciers in the Himalayasthe impact of declining water supplies in the region.
