epa02130897 Indian fisherman catches fish near the seashore of Bay of Bengal in Chennai, India, 25 April 2010. The 45-day annual ban on deep sea fishing by mechanized trawlers has already commencedit will be held till 29 May 2010. The ban will be enforced in two different phases along the easternwestern coasts of India during the fish breeding season. Scientists have reportedly found fish breeding to be active along the eastern coastal belt during AprilMay, which has in turn resulted in a ban on mechanized fishing. However, country boatscatamarans involved in traditional fishing are excluded from the ban. Fishermen have urged the government to provide them with alternate employment during this period as it will affect the livelihood of at least 100,000 fisherfolk.  EPA/NATHAN G.
