epa02127568 A NASA handout of an extreme ultra-violet photo take by Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) of gigantic plasma eruptions, sizzling gas swirlsturbulent mangnetic field of the sun taken on 30 March 2010. US space agency NASA's SDO sent the first exposures of the sun to earth. The miscolours indicate various temperatures of the hot gases: Red represnts relatively cool (around 60,000 degrees Kelvin), bluegreen rather warmer (abover one million degrees Kelvin). A so-called protuberance off some 100,000 kilometres height arches on the upper left of the image. SDO started its mission on 11 February 2010will observe the sun for five years.
