epa02127974 A villager gives out necessary data to get their Unique Identification card (UID) issued by the Indian government at a Government school in Chellur village, Tumkur district some145 KM North West from Southern Indian City of Bangalore, 22 April 2010. Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is an agency of the Government of India projec. It was established in February 2009,will ownoperate the Unique Identification Number database. The authority will aim at providing a unique number to all Indians, but not smart cards.It would provide a database of residents containing data including photographsfingerprints scanned using biometrics readers.  EPA/JAGADEESH NV
