epa02125482 A handout photograph released on 20 April 2010 by DLR Institue for PhysicsAtmosphere, showing a false color composite taken on board the DLR Falcon on 19 April 2010 including information from the METEOSAT-SEVIRI high resolution visible channel with a resolution of 1 km at the sub-satellite point. Due to the low sun at 1600 UTC, aerosol layers become visible mainly due to a reduction of the contrast of surface features. The yellow polygons enclose areas, showing such a reduced contrast not only in this image, but also in the time series. A distinction between the ash layersboundary layer pollution is not possible, but trajectory analysis indicates a good agreement to the aerosol from the Eyjafjallajokull volcano eruption. A successful Falcon measurement flight was performed on 19 April 2010 for probing plumes over Germany from the Iceland Eyjafjallaj?kull volcano eruption.
