Six years ago , a Christian farmer named Angus Buchan invited a small group of men to Shalom , his farm located near Greytown in South Africa ' s Kwa-Zulu Natal province . The meeting , called ' Mighty Men , ' was so popular that it grew into an annual event . From 16-18 April 2010 , nearly 300 , 000 men of all races converged on Shalom to attend the sixth Mighty Men Conference . To accommodate thousands of men in 3 , 000 , 000 square meters of camping area , significant preparations were made . 200Ha of grass were cut to make bails for sitting , 8km of underground pipeline carried 500 , 000 liters of water per hour , 4 , 000 showers2 , 500 toilets were erected to service the huge crowd . Among the necessary supplies used by the men to camp were 7 , 020 poles , 9 , 500m of hessian , 4 , 500 planks , 90 roles of black plastic . While most of the men arrived in pick-up trucks , some arrived in one of nearly 60 airplanes . Angus Bachan held two large services each day for the entire crowd , throughout the daynight , smaller private servicesBible studies took place in tented areas away from the massive main stage . It seems that , as South Africa is currently dealing with many issues including rampant crime , recent racial tensions , the murder of local farmers , the Mighty Men event has struck a chord with the men of South Africa . During several services , men could be seen crying out , perhaps responding to Angus Buchan ' s message that even the toughest men can find spiritual enlightenment .
